Xiaomi Mi Mix 2: can this bezel less beauty become mainstream ?

The Mi Mix 2 was one of the first phones to receive the shrinking bezels treatment, and it received a lot of credit for it. Xiaomi are back again with an upgrade of the mix, but can it keep up with the likes of the oneplus 5t? Let’s find out.

The Hardware:
The hardware is just amazing and is where the phone excels the most. The four side curved ceramic body and metal frame and little things like the gold ring around the camera make the phone feel really premium. Except the chin, there are almost no bezels on this phone.

The software:
Being a stock android person myself, I’m not a big fan of software skins on android, but the MIUI skin over android 7.1.1 on the mix 2 is one of the better ones. It’s quite fluid and the overall experience is pretty good. I think the best thing about this skin are the loads of themes in the themes store. If you don’t like the MIUI skin, you can always download other launchers, such as my favourite, the nova launcher from the play store.

The display:
The nearly bezel-less display, or as xiaomi calls it, the full screen display 2.0, has a 5.99 inch display with a resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels. The mix 2’s display has a pixel density of 403 ppi and is quite sharp. The screen isn’t that bright with only 387 nits of brightness at maximum.

The cameras:
The mix 2 has a single 12 megapixel back camera, not following 2017’s dual camera trend, equipped with xiaomi’s amazingly stable 4-axis OIS.
In well lit conditions the results are very good with nice detail, little noise and footage is quite good.
The 5 megapixel front or selfie camera is located at the chin of the phone. The results are fine, but not spectacular.

The mi mix 2’s speakers are pretty good with impressive sound quality and they are impressively loud. Unfortunately, it has followed the trend of leaving the headphone-jack out. There is also a music player app on the phone which also supports lyrics. Overall, the multimedia experience on this phone is good.

The mi mix 2 is powered by a qualcomm snapdragon 835, which is one of the best on the market right now. It has 6 gigs of RAM, which is more than enough for most users. It also has 126 gigs of internal storage. The battery size is good with 3,400 mAh, and there is also the support of quick charge 3.0.

Final verdict:
All-in-all, the Xiaomi mi mix 2 is an amazing smartphone and gives the Oneplus 5t a good fight. The unboxing experience is really good and Xiaomi also provide a case in the box. The phone is amazingly good-looking and is one of the most good looking phones on the market right now.
